Hi, I am Thiago.
A clinical psychologist, born and based in Rio de Janeiro, working online with adults. And before I was a psychologist, I spent many years thinking about how people learn and change.
My path to clinical work was not a straight line. I started in education: I took a degree in pedagogy at UFRJ, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and spent a long time working with the training of people. That is where I learned something I still carry into the consulting room: nobody changes by hearing the right answer. People change when they find room to work out their own questions.
Psychology grew out of that restlessness. I qualified as a psychologist at IBMR and immersed myself in research in phenomenology, particularly the work of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, a French philosopher who spent his life trying to understand how we perceive the world. Not with the mind on one side and the body on the other, but whole, all at once.
That may sound abstract, but it is the opposite. It is the most concrete thing there is: anxiety tightens the chest, exhaustion weighs on the shoulders, a loss of meaning empties out a Monday morning. Life happens in the body, in the routine, in our relationships. That is where therapy needs to happen too.
How I work
My approach is phenomenological-existential. Rather than fitting what you live into a theory or a diagnosis, I start from your experience: how things appear to you, what weighs, what is missing, what keeps coming back.
In practice that means a serious conversation without formulas. I do not hand out homework or catchy phrases. What I offer is presence, trained listening, and questions that help you see more clearly what you are living through, so that you can choose more freely what to do with it.
I work with adults, individually, by video call. Physical distance has never been an obstacle to a good encounter: what makes therapy is the quality of the conversation, not the room.
Language
I work in Portuguese, my first language, and in English. If English is not your first language either, that is not a problem: therapy often happens exactly in the effort of putting something into words, and we can take that slowly together.
Training
- Psychologist trained at IBMR, registered with the Regional Council of Psychology under CRP 05/83313
